The SHU Computing Department, working with Teacher Education, are running a series of interactive workshops to equip both pupils and teachers with the skills they need in computer science.
The workshops come as the government has announced that the current information and communications technology (ICT) curriculum in England’s schools will be replaced by lessons in computer science and programming which, it is hoped, will address the skills shortage in the UK computing industry.
Pupils from schools across the region – including Tupton Hall in Chesterfield, Notre Dame High School in Sheffield, Lady Manners School in Bakewell, Hope Valley College in Derbyshire and Stocksbridge High School – have already benefitted from the scheme, taking part in workshops over the summer.
The press release has been issued. Head of Department, Dr Keith Burley, has written a blog for the BCS website.
