Two former ACES students won prizes at the Enterprise Challenge Awards on 16th October.
Mike Moore, who graduated in 2012 with a BA in Product Design, won second prize. His company, Fold, aims to make festivals more environmentally friendly through the use of innovative product design. The first product is a water-resistant cardboard seat with a drinks holder and will be sold on site with an incentive for any seats returned at the end of the festival. The seats can subsequently be composted.
Patricia Dieng, MA Industrial Design, won third prize for her company TacMap. Patricia collaborated with Sheffield Blind Institute and the University's Lab4Living research group to create an innovative new way of providing directions for blind or visually impaired people.
TacMap is available at the Sheffield Royal Society for the Blind will also be available shortly at the Holiday Inn in Sheffield, as well as at Meadowhall Interchange and Pond Street bus stations after successfully showing visitors to the 2012 Paralympics about future plans for the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park.
